In May 1830, Parke Dennis fled enslavement in New Castle County, Delaware, and crossed into Chester County, Pennsylvania. His story opens a broader look at how the Delaware-Pennsylvania border shaped both the pursuit of freedom and the legal systems that sought to return freedom seekers to bondage.
Archivists from the Chester County Archives and the Delaware Public Archives will examine records from their collections that document Delaware freedom seekers and the systems they navigated in the nineteenth century.
Admission is pay as you wish. This virtual event will be recorded, and a link to the recording will be emailed to registrants.
