Delaware's 250th Anniversary License Plate: Celebrate History on the Road

Governor Meyer Signs Bill Creating Special Commemorative Plate
Delaware drivers can now show their state pride with a brand-new license plate that celebrates two historic milestones: America’s 250th birthday and Delaware’s designation as the First State.
Governor Matt Meyer made it official by signing House Bill 250 at the New Castle Court House Museum – the same building that served as Delaware’s state capitol during the original Separation Day back in 1774.

Why This License Plate Matters

“Next year, we’ll celebrate two 250-year milestones: the birth of our nation and Delaware’s place as one of the original 13 states,” Governor Meyer explained. “These anniversaries remind us of the courage and vision that shaped our country, and they challenge us to keep building a stronger future for every family.”
And true to Delaware tradition, we’re marking this historic moment with something uniquely ours – a special license plate that lets you carry state history wherever you drive.

Your Purchase Helps Delaware Celebrate

The bill, sponsored by Representative Eric Morrison and Senator Stephanie Hansen, does more than create a new plate design; it also helps fund the Delaware 250 celebration.
“What makes this new license plate even more meaningful is that its proceeds will go towards parades, programs, and events that will bring Delawareans together to celebrate this milestone we’ll only see once in our lifetimes,” said Rep. Morrison.
